HTC Sweden AB는 HTC의 특허 받은 청소 시스템인 Twister를 표절한 스웨덴 민간 항공 관리부와 3M 사에 대하여 정면으로 특허 무단 사용 소송을 진행하기로 했다.
트위스터는 HTC의 창시자인 Hakann Thysell의 발명품으로 다이아몬드 입자가 내장된 패드를 사용하는 유일한 청소 체계이다. 이 방법은 화학제품이 일체 들어가지 않는 청소 방법으로 더 나은 결과 및 비용절감과 환경 친화적인 제품이다. 즉, 환경 친화적인 기술 제품의 전형적인 예제인 셈이다. 기존의 클리닝 패드와 바닥청소용 화학약품의 필요 자체를 없애고 환경 친화적인 시장을 만들어가는데 주력하는 트위스터는 3M과 기존 화학 약품 시장에 위협적일 수 밖에 없을 것이다. 세계적인 청소 용역업체인 ISS가 트위스터를 선택하고 사용 계약을 체결하였다는 사실은 물론 HTC가 보유하고 있는 트위스터의 사용과 공법에 대한 전 세계 특허는 위와 같은 사실을 입증하기에 충분한 설명이다.
HTC는 최근 600여 다른 출품 회사와 함께 암스테르담에서 개최한 ISSA 인터클린 전시회에 참가하였다. 전시회 첫날 스위스 다이아몬드 생산업체 중 한곳이 다이아몬드가 박힌 패드를 부스에 전시하고 있었다. 이것은 예전 3M이 그랬듯이 HTC의 특허에 철저하게 위반되는 행동이다. HTC는 네덜란드 법원으로부터 전시회 첫날 특허권을 침해한 해당 업체에게 부스를 비우고 관련된 마케팅 자료를 전부 폐기하라는 조치를 내렸다고 통보 받았다.

In Sweden, HTC is involved in a dispute with the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration (LFV), among others, which has made common cause with the American multinational company 3M and is now trying to get HTC’s European patent declared invalid in order to gain access to this new interesting market. 3M has plagiarised Twister and LFV is now forcing ISS, which cleans at Arlanda Airport, to use this product despite it contravening the patent and despite the fact that ISS has Twister as its standard method and uses Twister globally. HTC has had no choice but to sue LFV for patent infringement. However, 3M has promised to pay LFV’s costs if they lose the dispute. LFV and 3M have therefore brought an action against HTC and have requested that HTC’s European patent on the Twister system be revoked. It is incomprehensible to HTC that a Swedish civil service department should opt to protect the interests of a large American company over those of a small yet innovative Swedish innovation company. The only thing they needed to do was to allow ISS to change its cleaning pads and use the Twister pads as they do in all other places. In fact, independent studies also show that Twister pads clean better than 3M’s pads. Nor would the switch have been more expensive for LFV.
The unreasonable nature of LFV’s action has been noted on newspaper Dagens Industri’s debate page by county governor Björn Eriksson and Swedish member of parliament Andreas Norlén, together with Håkan Thysell, main owner and inventor.
